How do I sign a document with QES?
If you’ve been asked to sign a document using a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES), there are a few extra steps to verify your identity before your signature can be applied.
You’ll complete the document in Signable first. Once everyone has completed their part, we’ll send you another invitation to verify your identity and apply your QES.
Step 1: Complete the Envelope
Open the signing link in your email and complete all the required fields as usual.
Once you’ve finished your part, you’re all done for now. We’ll let you know when it’s time to complete the QES process.
Step 2: Wait for everyone to complete the Envelope
Before QES can be applied, everyone involved in the Envelope needs to complete their part.
You don’t need to keep the signing page open or check back yourself. Once everyone has finished, Signable will send you another email inviting you to verify your identity and continue with QES.
Step 3: Review the final documents
Open the new invitation from Signable and review the final documents in the Envelope.
These are the completed versions that you’ll be signing with QES, so give them a final check before continuing.
Step 4: Verify your identity
Your identity is verified through Evrotrust, Signable’s Qualified Trust Service Provider (QTSP). Evrotrust confirms your identity before your QES can be applied.
To get started:
- Install the free Evrotrust app by scanning the QR code on screen or following the app-store link.
- Have your valid NFC-enabled passport ready.
- Enter your UK mobile number and select Send.
- Follow the instructions in the Evrotrust app to complete your identity verification.
Once your identity has been verified, it can be reused for future QES signing for up to two years. That means you won’t necessarily need to complete the full identity check each time you sign with QES.
Step 5: Confirm your QES in the Evrotrust app
When prompted, open the signing request in the Evrotrust app.
Check the details, then select Confirm to apply your QES.
Your QES won’t be applied until you confirm the request in the app, so don’t forget this last step.
Step 6: Wait for confirmation
Once you’ve confirmed, you can return to Signable. The page will update automatically when your QES has been successfully applied.
When everyone has completed the QES process, you’ll receive a copy of the completed documents by email.
Having trouble?
If you’re having trouble completing the identity check, make sure you have:
- A valid NFC-enabled passport.
- Access to the UK mobile number you entered.
- The Evrotrust app installed on your smartphone.
If you’re still having trouble, contact the person or organisation that sent you the Envelope. They can check its status and help with the next steps.
